A Year of Macarons at Antonio's: The Retrospective (90 Days to Today)

This blog started in late December with a post about Christmas macarons. Ninety posts and nine months later, it's become something we didn't plan: a running chronicle of what a bakery and paint studio in New Windsor actually knows β the meringue troubleshooting, the paint night data, the valley guides, the wedding-season war stories, the macaron history, the whole archive. A look back at what's been built, and a look forward at what's coming this fall.
What the Archive Holds (The Reader's Map)
If you're new here, the blog's best-of so far:
- The Troubleshooting Series: hollow macarons, spreading, no feet, thick batter, macaronage, almond flour, aged whites, ganache ratios, white ganache β the complete diagnostic library, built cause-by-cause across the year
- The Seasonal Recipes: from February's earl grey lavender through the peach-mania July run to September's maple brown-butter β a macaron recipe for the year, in season
- The Paint-Night Guides: bachelorette, corporate team-building, introverts, birthdays, milestones, what to wear, couples β the complete event-planning series from the studio's working knowledge
- The Valley Guides: day trips, picnics, art galleries, farm festivals, the art scene β the locals' Hudson Valley
- The Planning Guides: dessert tables, Thanksgiving (8 weeks out), fall weddings, shipping, event quantities
What We Learned Writing It (The Meta-Level)
Writing about the bakery's craft for nine months taught us things about the craft itself. Codifying the troubleshooting series forced us to systematize what had been intuition (the batch-notes discipline that resulted measurably improved shop consistency β the data became real data). The paint-night posts (introverts, team building, the success-rate analysis) made us pay attention to what the studio's numbers actually said versus what we assumed. The recipe posts taught us which flavors customers actually searched for (salted caramel first, always β see the recipe). Writing the valley guides made us better locals β you don't really know Plum Point's best picnic angle until you've written the paragraph. The blog made the business better, which is the reverse of how blogging is supposed to work.
The Business Behind the Blog (The Shop Report)
The honest business view of the period: the bakery grew through wedding season (the archive's calendar tells the story β the April wedding-planning posts, the August fall-wedding crunch), the paint studio's corporate and fundraiser formats matured into reliable programs, and the nationwide shipping operation quietly became a core part of the business (the shipped boxes went to 41 states this summer β the valley's macs travel well). The community part β the farmers-market relationships, the repeat paint-night regulars, the couples whose wedding cakes we've now done *and* baby-shower cakes for β is the part that doesn't show in ledgers but is the actual enterprise. The blog has been our way of making that visible.
What's Coming (The Fall and Holiday Preview)
The next-quarter plan, in the honest spirit of this post:
- The foliage season: the paint studio's fall calendar is the year's fullest; the foliage painting guide covers the subjects
- October: the wedding-season peak in the valley, the Halloween paint-nights, the apple mac rotation, the cake-order consult season for 2027 already underway
- November/December: the Thanksgiving playbook is live; the holiday flavor development (the eggnog mac, the peppermint-bark, the gingerbread) is in test-bakes now; the holiday gift-box and shipped-box operations scale up the week before Thanksgiving
- The blog: continues daily β more of the troubleshooting deep-dives, the recipes, the valley, the studio's working knowledge, with some new formats in test (the interviews, the seasonal round-ups)
A Thank-You (The Point of the Post)
A small business runs on the decisions of the people around it β the couple that books the paint night for their anniversary, the office manager who picks us for the team event, the stranger in 41 states who ordered the box on a Tuesday. Every mac shipped, every canvas painted, every cake consulted is a person who chose a small New Windsor bakery-and-studio over the easier option, and the archive of this blog is, underneath everything else, a record of those choices accumulating. Thank you for being part of the first nine months. We take the work seriously; we're glad it shows. See you tomorrow β there's a post about something else we know, every day, for as long as you'll have us.
That's the year so far β and tomorrow starts the next one. Visit: the shop, the studio, or your mailbox. β with gratitude, from everybody at Antonio's.
