Happy Fourth of July from our bakery family to yours. Today is the nation's birthday and the summer's centerpiece, and the Hudson Valley does it properly. A short post on the day itself.
The Hudson Valley's Fourth, If You Need Plans
Our corner of the valley does the Fourth well: Newburgh's Independence Day fireworks over the Hudson, West Point's celebration traditions just up the road, and most of the river towns running parades and evening shows. Wherever you land — riverside, backyard, or a porch — this is one of the valley's best days of the year. If fireworks are your target: show up early, bring bug spray, and the post-sunset show is best viewed after a full afternoon of eating. Order of operations matters.
What the Bakery Case Looks Like Today
If you're making us part of your Fourth, we're stocked with the red-and-white-and-blue everything: macs in patriotic trios, flag-colored cupcakes, and the July flavors at their peak (blueberry, lemon, watermelon). Pre-orders went out this morning; the case has what's left after that — come early as the line is the year's second-busiest Saturday-level event condensed into a few hours. We staff for it, but still.
A Word on Gratitude on the Fourth
Independence Day at a bakery is a particular kind of day — a day of making things that land at tables where families are gathered, and tables where people are missing someone. We take both seriously. The Fourth's traditions work because they belong to everyone, and a bakery's job on a day like today is to be a small part of everyone's version of it. Thanks for letting us be that part.
This Weekend's Remaining Planning
If you're hosting Sunday barbecues as the weekend continues, the order pickup lane is open tomorrow. July 5th's hungover brunch is also a real category of need — we'd gently recommend the pastries and the croissants for that specific Sunday-morning purpose. We will not judge the hoodie-and-sunglasses energy. We respect it, honestly.
